Why Must I Go to School?

When you think of school, what do you think of? It’s a safe guess that you think of seeing your friends. Maybe you really like your teacher, or one of your teachers if you have several. You might like one of the subjects that you are learning about, and look forward to learning more. However, it is also possible that you are bored or disinterested. Maybe you have an unhappy life at home, so you just don’t feel like trying to learn. You might have a hard time believing that school is necessary. Whatever your feelings, there are real good reasons for learning all of that stuff.

Let’s look ahead a bunch of years. Regardless of what your childhood is like, no matter how much you hate a certain subject, someday you are going to be grown up. Someday, you are going to have to get a job and earn money to support yourself. What kind of a job do you think you will get if you do not try to learn as much as you can about a lot of different things?

Let’s break it down into smaller pieces. If you don’t learn very much in elementary school, you will have a hard time when you get to middle and high school. This is because your first six or seven years of learning build the base for the learning that comes later. Then, if you don’t learn what you need to in grades 9-12, you will likely have a hard time in college. In fact, you won’t even be able to get into a university without good grades. If you can’t get a higher education, you won’t be hired into the jobs that require one, and you won’t make a lot of money. You may even need to work two jobs in order to make enough money to live on.

There’s something that is even more important. God created you for a specific purpose that you alone were designed for. Therefore, He needs you to do your very best as you prepare to be what He created you to be. School plays a major part in that. God knows what you need to learn in order to do what He wants you to do. Even the things that you learn outside of your classes are part of God’s plan for you. Yes, even the bad things that happen shape you into the person that you need to be to carry out the duties that you were designed to perform. No one else has the exact same experiences as you, so you are one of a kind. Only you are capable of doing what God created you to do. All of your education from all parts of your life is important to learn.
