Can Having Bad Feelings About Something Make Me Sick?
To put it simply, yes.
When you are upset about something and have feelings like anger, fear, anxiety, and grief, your body is affected by the stress that results. If you experience this for a long period of time, you can actually become ill. Here's why:
When you are under stress, a hormone called cortisol enters your blood stream. If you get too much of it too often, it can begin to damage your internal organs. Since you need a healthy stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, etc., to function properly, damage to these internal body parts can make you sick.
Of course, for every problem, God creates a remedy. One thing that you can do if you are upset is get some exercise. This will cause hormones called endorphins to enter your blood stream, which will make you feel better and counteract the cortisol. Also, exercise burns cortisol in much the same way that it burns calories, so there will be less of it to cause damage.
Another remedy that God provides is prayer. When we need help, God loves to be the one that we turn to. After all, He created us, so doesn't it make sense that He would want to help us solve our problems?
