What Happens When You Die?

Some people believe that, when you die, it is just like going to sleep . . . forever. Others think that all people . . . well, except for those who did something really bad, like murder someone . . . go to heaven. Still, others think that you come back as someone else, or possibly as some kind of animal. Well, let’s see if the Bible can help us out.

We are told that God knew us before we were formed in the womb. This means that God created your soul before your body. It means that, by the time you started to grow inside your mother, you already had a soul. So, since your soul existed outside of your body before YOU existed, doesn’t it make sense that it will still exist after your body dies?

The Bible tells us that your soul will appear before God and be judged for what you did while on Earth. But, that doesn’t have to be as scary as it sounds. After all, God loves you very much. He lovingly created you to do things that only you were meant to do, so going before Him should be like returning home. The problem is, we have all done things that we knew we shouldn’t have done, so being afraid of facing God is normal. We know that we deserve to be punished, so we think that is what is going to happen. However, that is where Jesus Christ comes in.

God provided a way to avoid being punished for the things that you did wrong. What He did was send His son, Jesus, to be punished instead of you. That is what Jesus did when he was killed by being nailed to a cross. He paid your fine; served your time; canceled your debt. So, now all you have to do is accept what he did, because it is a gift from God.

The Bible tells us that all who believe in Jesus and what he did for us will not be punished for what they did wrong, but instead will live in heaven forever. But, you need to let him know that you believe. You need to pray and ask him to come into your heart, which is the center of your life. When you do this, God will forgive you and send the Holy Spirit to live inside of you. That is how you will know what God created you for, and that you will go to heaven when you die.

So, you see, death does not need to be scary. It can be a very wonderful thing. To find out more about asking Jesus to come into your heart, go to the menu on the left side of this page and click on “Ask Jesus In.”
