Now That I'm a Christian, What's Next?
If you know someone who is a Christian, the first thing you might want to do is tell them about your decision. They can help you to get off on the right track, and may even take you to the church that they go to.
Another thing to do right away, even if you don't know someone who also knows Jesus, is to find a church. If there is one close to your home, you might start there. They can make sure that you get a Bible to read, and also introduce you to other kids who are believers. Maybe you can talk your parents into going with you. They might be curious about the change that they are already beginning to see in you.
Once you have a Bible, you will want to read it. Don't read it all at once, of course, but a little bit at a time. The book of Luke is a good place to start because it tells the Christmas story. Also, in chapter 15, it tells a wonderful story of forgiveness. Otherwise, some verses that are good to read right now, that have to do with the decision that you just made, are: John 3:16, John 14:2, John 14:6, Romans 3:23, and Romans 10:9.
So far, you've said one prayer. Now, you want to keep praying. Pray every day about things that concern you. Pray whenever you think about something that you want God to help with. Don't wait. Also, don't forget to ask God to show you more about Himself and to teach you what is right. The Holy Spirit will give you the power to obey.
One last thing: Tell others about the decision that you have just made. They may not understand at first, but as they see your life change, they may get interested in what you have found. Don't worry if you don't have all of the answers to their questions. You won't. But, you can always invite them to church, introduce them to a new Christian friend who does know some of the answers, or just show them through your life the difference that the Holy Spirit makes. Just trust God!
